Duotone Volt SLS 2027 Surfboard
Volt SLS, fast and controlled small wave surfboard from Duotone
Small waves, little power and sections where you would normally almost come to a standstill. Those are exactly the conditions where the Duotone Volt SLS 2027 comes to life. The Volt is the high performance small wave surfboard from Duotone, designed by Sky Solbach to get as much speed and performance as possible out of small to medium-sized waves. The board accelerates easily, turns tightly and gives you enough drive to keep surfing through weak sections.
The shape is fully focused on generating and maintaining speed. The low entry rocker allows the Volt to get onto the water quickly and lose very little energy while riding. There is relatively plenty of surface area and volume under your front foot, helping the board maintain speed easily even with limited kite power. Meanwhile, the Double Concave Bottom provides extra grip on the wave face. This allows you to put plenty of pressure on the rail and make short, aggressive turns without the board becoming nervous.
The biggest change to the Volt came with the 2026 model. That version introduced a shorter and rounder outline, new sizes and an updated SLS lay-up. For 2027, Duotone builds further on that successful concept. The familiar fast and agile character remains, while the construction is further refined with a new Carbon T-Stringer. This construction gives the board a sportier feel and creates a more direct response when you build pressure during a bottom turn or redirect the board back down from the lip.
The SLS lay-up consists of +/- 45° glass fiber, allowing the Volt to maintain a controlled and natural flex. Unlike a completely stiff carbon construction, this gives you slightly more time and feel when initiating your turns. A Full Innegra wrap runs around the board. Innegra helps absorb vibrations and impacts while also making the board more resistant to everyday use. Under your feet, the Cork Shock Absorber 2.0 further absorbs impact and chatter when the water gets rough.
Compared to the Volt SLS 2026, the difference for 2027 is therefore not a completely different character. The 2026 version introduced the new small wave shape and updated SLS construction, while the 2027 Volt further refines this with the new Carbon T-Stringer. Expect the same combination of fast acceleration, plenty of drive and tight turns, but with a sportier and more precise feel under your feet.
Not sure whether to choose the Volt SLS or Volt D/LAB 2027? Both boards are designed for the same type of waves and share the same high performance character, but the construction makes a clear difference. The Volt D/LAB uses carbon in the deck and RMF 3.0 Shock Absorber technology to further reduce weight and maximize responsiveness. As a result, the D/LAB feels lighter, more explosive and more direct. With its glass fiber, Full Innegra wrap and Cork Shock Absorber 2.0, the SLS provides a slightly smoother and more controlled surf feel. In choppy North Sea conditions, that extra comfort can be especially enjoyable.
The SLS is therefore certainly not simply the basic version of the D/LAB. It is a high performance surfboard with a slightly more accessible flex pattern and more damping. If you want every movement of your feet to be transferred as directly as possible and are looking for the lowest possible weight, choose the Volt D/LAB. If you want the same fast small wave performance, but with a little more comfort, control and a more affordable price tag, then the Duotone Volt SLS 2027 is probably the better choice.
